Workshop Servicing, Repair, Rebuilds and Testing
Perrott Engineering’s Cairns facility offers a full service facility for a very broad range of components.
- Hydraulic and lube system components of all types.
- Industrial gearbox rebuilds.
- Grease system component rebuild and testing.
- Winch rebuilding.
- Crane rebuilding and re-certification, including all marine cranes.
Clean Room Facilities
Our clean room is pressurised with temperature controlled, filtered air and fitted with filtered, recirculating solvent wash down benches for the pre-assembly cleaning of all critical componentry. It also houses our 24” lapping machine and optical flatness testing equipment. In addition, we have an extensive range of electronic test equipment and signal generators to allow us to fully test electrically controlled pumps, valves and motors.
Pump, Motor and Valve Test Room
Our test room in Cairns is contained within a soundproof, air conditioned room and is fitted with two test bench circuits.
One is diesel powered with a capacity to test to 350kW and the second is variable speed electric of 75kW capacity. The 3000 litre oil reservoir supplying these two units is temperature controlled to a constant 40c and filtered to ISO4406 15/13/11 cleanliness level.
As part of our inhouse quality system, oil sampling is done on a monthly basis.
With these two test units we are able to fully test and document the performance of practically all hydraulic components. Both test circuits can be operated in open or closed loop configurations.
We also have open loop facilities of 200lpm to 375Bar and a range of test voltages for valve testing and setting.
All pressure, flow and temperature measuring equipment is calibrated or verified annually to NATA traceable standards.
Cylinder Rebuilding
Our service workshop is equipped with a comprehensive range of specialist cylinder servicing equipment including a cylinder pull down bench 14m long and in excess of 10-ton job capacity. This Perrott Engineering designed and built unit is the end product of 45 years’ experience in hydraulic servicing and is one of the most modern and highly developed cylinder strip benches in service in the world. It has a hydraulically powered rotary head spanner for rapid rod nut removal and re-torqueing, in excess of 12,000kg pull back force and in excess of 40,000Nm torque available in the rotary head. All functions are controlled by electric proportional joystick controls from a travelling control station that moves the full length of the machines bed.
A 250 Bar high flow test circuit is also incorporated into the bench for testing of all cylinders after reassembly.
Honing
We are able to offer horizontal honing capacity up to 6 metres in length and 45mm to 500mm diameter in Cairns. This machine is a modern, heavy duty machine capable of high metal removal rates and exceptional surface finish with a high degree of dimensional accuracy in diameter and length.
All materials such as steel, stainless steels, cast iron and aluminium can be honed to whatever surface finish is required.
We also have a calibrated Surface Roughness (Ra) tester in house to verify surface finish.
Lapping
Our service facility has a Kemet 24-inch diameter plate lapping machine for use in achieving a high degree of flatness in hydraulic pump and motor pressure plates, valve plates, rotating group blocks etc. Capacity to lap items up to 300mm diameter.
Calibrated optical flatness testing equipment capable of reading flatness accuracy down to 2um is also used to check and verify results as necessary.
High Pressure Hose Testing
Our hose assembly area has a fully enclosed high pressure hose test rig with NATA traceable certified gauge and is rated to 2000Bar (30,000psi). This is a hydraulic oil based test rig, as our policy is to test hoses with the fluid type that will be used in the hose whenever possible to minimise the potential for cross contamination.
We also have a smaller, portable water based testing unit, also rated to 2000 Bar that is utilised on hoses used with water based fluids.
Accumulators
All accumulator servicing, repair and recharging is carried out by our trained technicians in house. Bladder accumulators can be stripped, inspected and have new bladders fitted and recharged and piston accumulators can be fully stripped, inspected, honed, resealed, tested and charged.
All accumulator work is carried out under relevant Australian Standards and OEM recommendations.
Hose, Tube and Pipe Assembly
We carry extensive stocks of hydraulic hose, fittings and adaptors as well as test hose and fittings. Our hose range covers everything from 2mm and 4mm ID test hose up to 2”, 6 wire hose.
We also hold in stock a comprehensive range of Stainless steel hydraulic line tube in metric and imperial sizes up to 42mm and 1.5” diameter as well as cutting, bending, ferrule pre-setting and flaring equipment to suit.
Our tube fitting range is stocked in both steel zinc plated and 316 Stainless and covers both flared and ferrule type fittings.
